UROLOGY · APPLICATION CYCLE 2026–2027

Track your Urology residency applications — every program, signal, and interview.

Urology doesn't run on the NRMP's calendar. It matches through the AUA Urology Residency Match — administered by the American Urological Association on behalf of the Society of Academic Urologists — on an earlier, more compressed timeline than the rest of medicine. It's also one of the tightest matches in medicine: in the 2026 cycle, 417 of 419 offered Urology positions filled, a 99.5% fill rate with only two vacancies nationwide. CycleDoc's directory carries 156 Urology programs across 44 states, and its deadlines follow that earlier AUA timeline rather than the standard September-to-March cycle most specialties share.

UROLOGY SPECIFIC

Do I also need to register for the NRMP Match?

No. Urology fills entirely through the AUA Match, separate from the NRMP Main Residency Match — and the AUA Match's own rules prohibit registering for another match at the same time. If you're also applying to a backup specialty, confirm each program's policy directly.

How many Urology positions are actually available nationally?

In the 2026 Match, 417 of 419 offered Urology positions filled — a 99.5% fill rate, among the tightest of any specialty (Source: American College of Surgeons, ACS Brief, March 2026). CycleDoc's directory lists 156 accredited Urology programs; program count and position count aren't the same number, since program size varies.

FAQ

Reasonable questions.

How is this different from Residency Explorer?

Residency Explorer helps you decide where to apply. CycleDoc runs the cycle after you've decided — tracking what you submitted, where your signals went, which deadlines are next, which interviews conflict, and how your own invite rates are trending. Most applicants use both.
